Museo Fuerte Conde de Mirasol (ICP)
Category: History & Culture — Vieques, Puerto Rico
The only 19th-century fortification built by the United States in Puerto Rico, the Fuerte Conde de Mirasol houses a museum operated by the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña (ICP). Permanent exhibits trace Vieques history from the earliest Taíno and pre-Arawak settlements through Spanish colonial rule, the sugar era, U.S. Navy occupation (1941–2003), and present-day island life. Rotating exhibits highlight Viequense art, culture, and identity. The fort sits on a hilltop above Isabel Segunda with panoramic views of the island's north coast. Admission fee applies; contact the ICP or visit their website for current hours and exhibition schedules.
